Porsche 911 Carrera T REVEALED – Less weight, more money
The Porsche 911 Carrera T has been revealed as a stripped-back 911, with less weight and improved performance. On sale now from £85,576.
The new Porsche 911 Carrera T – a revival of the 911 T name from the 1960s – is the 911 stripped back to basics with less weight and improved performance. And it costs from £85,567, £8k more than an entry-level 911.The 911 T comes with the same 365bhp 3.0 litre as the regular Carrera, with power going to the back wheels through a seven-speed manual gearbox, with a shorter final drive and mechanical limited slip diff.
Porsche has cut weight (around 20kg) by fitting lightweight glass and nylon door pulls, dumping the back seats and deleting PCM (although you can option it back in).
But the 911 T (‘T’ stands for Touring) does get PASM, Sports Chrono Package, shorter gear shift, Sport-Tex fabric and optional rear-wheel steering.
The tweaks deliver a more basic 911, and it is marginally quicker, getting to 62mph in 4.2 seconds – 0.1s quicker than a standard 911.
Other changes include an optimised front lip, grey mirrors, sports exhaust with black tail pipes, different slats in the engine cover and 20″ Titanium Grey alloys. Paint options are limited to Black, Lava Orange, Guards Red, Racing Yellow, White and Miami Blue, as well as the metallic colours Carrara White, Jet Black and GT Silver.
Inside there’s electric sports seats (we’d have thought that an ideal candidate to save weight), optional bucket seats, mode button on the steering wheel, and a T Interior Package adding a splash of colour in Racing Yellow, Guards Red or GT Silver.
The Porsche 911 T is now available to order at Porsche’s UK dealers with prices starting from £85,576. First customer cars are due in January 2018.
