Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S: OFFICIAL (video)

The Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S have been revealed as Porsche revisit the removal Targa top for more enclosed open air motoring.

Porsche has gone back in to the history of the 911 to deliver a new way to enjoy fresh air motoring with the reveal of the Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S at the Detroit Auto Show today.

Sitting between the regular Porsche 911 and the 911 Convertible, the 911 Targa comes with properly retro styling  with a back screen that wraps round the back of the 911 and a silver painted bar stretching up and over the roof.

But unlike a classic 911 Targa – when removing the Targa panel was a manual job – the new 911 Targa comes with a two-piece Targa section that automatically folds behind the rear seats at the touch of a button, leaving the glorious curved rear screen in place and letting in just enough fresh air and sunshine.

The 911 Targa will only be available with 4WD, so the choice is between the 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S, the former with Porsche’s 345bhp 3.4 litre flat six and a 0-62mph of 4.8 seconds (if you opt for the PDK ‘box) and the latter with Porsche’s 3.8 litre 394bhp flat six, good for 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds with the PDK.

Both the Targa 4 and Targa 4S get the wider rear body of the Porsche 4 and standard kit including leather, sports seats, Climate and touchscreen with SatNav, with the Targe 4S adding PASM, 20″ alloys and a limited slip diff.

It’s a good looking 911 – as either a 4 or 4S – and probably more appealing to non-posers (and retro Porsche fans) than a full 911 Cabriolet.

Both the Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S are now on sale from £86,281 and £96,316 respectively with first cars due in May.
