Renault’s take on the Qashqai – the new Renault Kadjar SUV – will cost from £17,995 in the UK, rising to £26,295 in an 18-strong line-up of Kadjurs.
Renault’s hatches haven’t found it as easy in recent years to find homes as they once did, so Renault turned to the compact SUV market with the Captur, which has sold well and encouraged Renault to give the Captur a big brother – the Renault Kadjur – to keep on mopping up those compact SUV sales.Fortunately for Renault, they didn’t have to start from scratch with the Kadjar, as their alliance with Nissan has allowed them to take the sector’s best-selling model – the Nissan Qashqai – and add some Gallic charm and styling to deliver a new Renault model.
Revealed at the Geneva Motor Show on March, the Kadjar will go on sale in the UK in July offering a similar range of engines and options as the Qashqai, with a total of 18 different versions on offer with either FWD or 4WD and a choice of familiar Renault trim levels – Expression+, Dynamique Nav, Dynamique S Nav and Signature Nav.
The entry-level Kadjar Expression+ (prices from £17,995 to £21,095) gets LED running lights, 7″ TFT instrument panel, electric windows, Air Con, Bluetooth and DAB, with the better equipped Dynamique Nav (from £19,695 to £24,295) making the Kadjar more appealing with 17″ alloys, cornering fogs, chrome exterior bits, privacy glass, Climate, auto lights, wipers and locking, Visio, Arkamys 3D digital audio system and the R-Link 2 multimedia with Sat Nav.
The Dynamique Nav is probably the best value, but Dynamique S (from £20-495 to £25,095) adds in 19″ alloys, parking sensors, leather, one-touch folding back seat and heated door mirrors, with the range-topping Signature Nav (from £21,695 to £26,295) which adds full LED headlights, panoramic roof, painted skid plates, cloth and leather upholstery and Bose Sound.
Engine choices are familiar, with the 1.2 litre Turbo TCe 130 offering 128 bhp and 54.4mpg, the 1.5-litre ENERGY dCi 110 with 108bhp and 74.3mpg and the 1.6-litre ENERGY dCi 130 with 128bhp and 65.7mpg.
You can have the EDC dual clutch auto ‘box with the dCi 110 and 4WD on the dCi 130 (except on Expression+ models) although you will take a hit on economy.
The Renault Kadjar is being built in Spain and goes on sale in the UK in July, with first customer cars expected in September.
