Sebastian Vettel on POLE at Canadian Grand Prix – Hamilton starts fourth

Sebastian Vettel has taken pole position for today’s 2018 Canadian Grand Prix, narrowly beating Mercedes’ Bottas who starts second. Lewis Hamilton could only manage a fourth place start.

The starting grid for today’s 2018 Canadian Grand Prix has the usual mix of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull at the front, but it’s Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel who proved the master of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, taking pole by just 0.093 from Mercedes’ Bottas.

Vettel and Bottas have the Red Bull of Max Verstappen behind in third place, and Lewis Hamilton, who didn’t seem to be on form, could manage only fourth.

Raikkonen had looked likely to grab third place on the grid, but ended up having to settle for fifth, and Daniel Ricciardo took sixth spot to complete the Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull lock-out at the front of the grid.

Hulkenberg took the first of the also-ran places for Renault in seventh, Ocon is eighth for Force India, Sainz ninth for the second Renault and Perez gave Force India both cars in the top ten starts.

But it was a miserable qualifying for McLaren, with the Canadian circuit highlighting McLaren’s lack of straight-line speed and leaving Alonso starting in 14th place and team-mate Vandoorne one behind in 15th.
