Skoda Superb Facelift TEASED – and there’s a plug-in Hybrid too

The Skoda Superb is about to get a facelift, ahead of which Skoda are teasing its arrival with a design sketch. The new Superb will also get a plug-in hybrid option.

The Skoda Superb is about to get a facelift, and although there will be changes to its looks, and its tech, it’s hard to work up too much excitement for a titivation. So Skoda has decided to ‘tease’ us with a design sketch of the new Superb in the hope the artistic licence a sketch can have will get brows fevered with excitement.

Changes you can expect from the facelift include the usual facelift fodder like a new grille and new lights, new bumpers and an interior which will go ‘latest VW’ with digital instruments and updated infotainment. Oh, and you can probably expect ‘S.K.O.D.A.’ to be writ large across the boot, just like the Scala.

But we’re expecting one change for the new Superb which is a bit more than a titivation, and that’s the arrival of a plug-in hybrid Superb.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain will almost certainly be borrowed wholesale from the VW Passat, which means a 1.4 litre TSI mated to a gearbox mounted electric motor with a 13kWh battery delivering (official) EV range of around 30 miles, and available across a range of Superb trims, not just as a range-topping offering.

Aside from the arrival of a plug-in hybrid, engine options are likely to stay the same as the current Superb’s petrol and diesel offerings, as well as manual and DSG gearbox options and FWD and 4WD offerings too.
