In what’s thought to be an industry first Jaguar main dealer Stratstone is selling classic Jaguars supplied by specialists Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth.
The world of classic cars is one that isn’t normally immediately accessible to buyers of new cars; the classic car world is thought of by many as a world of men with pipes and leather patches on their elbows inhabiting their own secret world of a bygone day.But with classic cars proving to be one of the soundest investments you can make – as long as you choose well – it’s a world buyers of new premium cars could to well to look at, especially with the tax breaks classic car investment brings, never mind the joy of owning a mobile work of art.
So the news that Jaguar main dealers Stratsone have formed a partnership with Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth (the same guys building Jaguar’s Ian Callum his very own one-off Jag MKII) could see classic cars become much more mainstream.
To start with, Stratsone have on offer a very nice Series 3 E-Type – one of the last 50 Commemorative models with the V12 engine, black paintwork and Cinnamon interior – sympathetically restored by CMC and with just 24,000 miles on the clock.
James Brierly, Stratstone’s MD, said:
I have a long history with Jaguar and Daimler dating back to 1930’s and like many of our customers we share a passion for classic cars, particularly Jaguar sports cars.
We have strong links with the Midland Automobile Club and Shelsley Walsh, so we firmly believe that we are able to understand this specialist market. Throughout my time in the industry I have never come across a restorer as capable or passionate as CMC and it is a pleasure to work with them and their team.
It’s a clever move to offer classic Jaguars alongside the new stuff; it shows the heritage of the marque and gives new Jaguar buyers the opportunity to grab a piece of car history alongside their new daily driver.
And the sight of a shiny E-Type in Stratstone’s showroom window should grab footfall too.

Tax breaks on classic cars? What tax breaks?
Cars UK says
If you buy art or antiques, make a thumping profit and then sell on, you’re liable to capital gains tax on the profit. But cars are considered ‘wasting’ assets by the tax man so any profit you make on your classic car is completely tax free. Which means, for most investors, a saving of 28%.

So you walk in to Stratsones looking for a new XJ and walk out with a ’73 E-Type instead. Well, I would!!
