The Tesla Model X SUV – the world’s first electric SUV – arrives in production guise with up to 751bhp and 0-62mph in 3.2s. Arrives in the UK late 2016.
The Tesla Model X – Tesla’s SUV take on the Model S – has been on the way for what seems like forever, but Tesla has now finally revealed the production version of the Model X in California, and it comes with up to 751bhp and, in ‘Ludicrous’ mode, can hit 62mph in just 3.2 seconds.Looking very much like the Model X concept, the production version retains the eye-catching Falcon doors – which swing up to allow entry, needing only 30cm of space at the sides and complete with sensors to stop them hitting anything – as well as seating for seven and a huge panoramic windscreen.
Power comes from the same 4WD as the latest Model S, which means a regular 90D model with a combined output of 510bhp and 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, and a P90D model with a total of 751bhp and – in ‘Ludicrous’ mode – 0-62mph in an unbelievable 3.2 seconds. Range is said to be around 250 miles (unless you make use of the performance), and there’s an active spoiler on the back to improve dynamics and efficiency.
Inside looks to be pretty much Model S, with the big 17″ touchscreen and a HEPA filter, which Tesla say will deliver pure air to the cabin whatever’s going on outside, seating for seven and, at least on the top-end models, lashings of leather.
There’s no official news on price or when the Model X will arrive in the UK, but Tesla say pricing will be similar to the Model S (which ranges up to £90k) and we’d be surprised if there are any cars in the UK before the end of 2016 (at best).
