
The Electric Volvo XC40 debuts next month
The electric Volvo XC40 will arrive in October as Volvo’s first BEV, and the tease for the new EV begins with a look at how safe it is.
It’s been no secret the electric Volvo XC40 will arrive soon as Volvo’s first BEV, but now we know it will debut in October Volvo is moving in to tease mode for the latest addition to the very successful XC40 range.You might have thought, as the electric XC40 will look much like any other XC40, that Volvo would start the tease with some sort of information about its powertrain, its electric motors and its battery size. But no; this is Volvo, so the important stuff comes first – safety.
Volvo say the electric XC40 will one of the safest cars on the road, and that much work has gone in to making sure that turning the XC40 in to an EV doesn’t compromise safery.
Volvo has completely redesigned and reinforced the frontal structure so it performs without the big lump of ICE iron under the bonnet, developed a new safety structure for passengers, created a safety cage for the battery and integrated the electric powertrain in to the rear of the body to better distribute and collision forces. Volvo has also added a new Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS).
Expect more teases for the electric XC40 between now and its official debut on 16 October 2019.
