THIS is the new Lexus ES
The new Lexus ES – heading for the UK to replace the current GS – is revealed in a single image by Lexus ahead of its debut in Beijing this month.
Lexus delivered a tease for the new ES last week, but revealing a big spindle grille and nothing else doesn’t exactly give the game away, as a Lexus without a big spindle grille is a bit hard to imagine these days. But Lexus has gone from that completely pointless tease to a full reveal of the new GS, albeit a single image, as they get ready to reveal just what the ES will have to offer at the Beijing Motor Show in a week or so.
What we can see from the photo of the new GS is a car which takes a chunk of its styling cues from the latest LS, although it’s likely to get engines from the current GS rather than the bigger lumps from the LS.
Officially we have no confirmation that the new ES is coming to the UK to replace the GS, although there has been an acknowledgement that GS production is ending, and Lexus has delivered the photo of the new ES through its UK media platform. So it seems a done deal.
What we still need to know is will the UK get the ES only with front-wheel drive (as the current ES is) or are Lexus planning to electrify the back axle to give a four-wheel drive option? And will there be a Lexus ES F?
Hopefully, we’ll get the answers in the coming days, but for now all Lexus has to say is:
The all-new Lexus ES is the product of a re-imagined luxury equation. Engaging design, athletic performance and renowned refinement transform Lexus’s most popular saloon.

No confirmation ES replacing GS, maybe GS is dropped, Maybe , maybe……basically, you don’t know, Can you confirm that?
Cars UK says
There’s a link in the story to confirmation that production has ended for Europe, and although there is nothing official from Lexus the sales of the GS (in the UK not much more than 400 units last year, and hugely lower than the ES in the States), and the world falling out of love with saloons, seem to make it a certainty. Lexus has also issued the image at the top of the story through its UK media site. We’ll see!
