Sabine Schmitz, Chris Evans and Chris Harris on ‘New’ Top Gear
It seems we now know who will join Chris Evans on the new Top Gear – German racing driver Sabine Schmitz and car journalist Chris Harris.
Who will be hosting the new Top Gear with Chris Evans when it returns in May 2016 is something that’s been endlessly speculated about ever since Clarkson had his fracas and Evans was appointed as his replacement. And it looks like we now know. The Telegraph is reporting that Sabine Schmitz and Chris Harris will be the new Hammond and May, and that David Coulthard is also tipped to join the frolics (presumably he’ll have less to do now the Beeb has given up its F1 coverage).
The Telegraph are calling Schmitz and Harris ‘virtual unknowns’, but viewers with petrol running through their veins will know exactly who they are.
Chris Harris is a motoring journalist and the star of a series of car videos who can probably drive better than either Clarkson, Hammond or May, and is adept at conveying just what a car is like – even when he’s going sideways.
Sabine Schmitz is already known to Top Gear viewers after her previous stints on the show and, apart from those appearances, is probably best known for her Nurburgring taxi drives.
Where David Coulthard fits in we’re not sure, but he can certainly drive a bit and is used to being in front of the cameras.
It might take a while for Top Gear viewers to get used to the new faces, but from a petrolhead perspective it looks like the ‘new’ TG lineup is a good start.
