Top Gear Series 24 video trailer with an old Mercedes E-Class, London Black Cab and a Volvo 850 estate
Top Gear will shortly be back on the BBC for Series 24, and the Beeb kick off the anticipation with the first video trailer for the new series.
Top Gear without Clarkson, Hammond and May – but with Chris Evans – was very much a curate’s egg. But a curate’s egg where even the good bits were often derivative and the bad bits almost woeful.Fortunately for Top Gear in Series 23, the only comparison to ‘New’ Top Gear was Top Gear with Clarkson, Hammond and May (which was tough enough), and it came up woefully short. But now there’s the mightily impressive The Grand Tour to stand as comparison too.
But despite seemingly impossible odds, the BBC is pushing on with ‘New’ Top Gear, with this video trailer previewing the new series of Top Gear, which is “Coming Soon” and does without the services of Chris Evans.
It’s hard to judge on one trailer of just 21 seconds, but it does look rather like the BBC has tried to replicate the old Clarkson, May, Hammond dynamic trio with Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harries and Rory Reid the chosen three.
The clip shows the three new amigos in old bangers – what looks to be a Volvo 850 Estate, a Black Cab and an old Mercedes E-Class – doing something very Top Gear – trying to see if their cars will drive in a straight line across a snow speckled beach with no hands, no knees and a full throttle.
Which, even if the bonhomie is contrived and the relationships new, is at least proper Top Gear in conception.

V70, not 850.

It does look like an 850 to us, but we’ve been known to be wrong!
