Even before the Toyota GT 86 hit the roads we were expecting a convertible version to be not far behind. In fact, Toyota’s chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, confirmed last month that the GT86 / Subaru BRZ / Scion FR-S was conceived as a convertible and that Toyota are working on a production version.
That has moved a step closer with the reveal of the Scion FR-S Speedster, an officially sanctioned GT86/BRX/FR-S convertible created by Iacona Design and Cartel Customes, which will debut at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach as a fully-fledged Toyota Racing debut.
The FR-S Speedster nods to Toyota’s racing heritage with ’86’ on its doors and rear wing and gets Toyota Racing’s paint scheme. The Speedster also gets modified bumpers and bonnet, speed blisters, new rear deck, new interior, chopped windscreen and door glass and a whopping great APR Performance Custome 61″ carbon fibre wing.
All of which brings convertible versions of the Toyota GT86, Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S that bit closer.
