Toyota Land Cruiser passes 10 MILLION sales
The Toyota Land Cruiser has passed the 10 million production benchmark after 68 years in production and sales in 170 countries around the world.
We’ve had endless new Land Rover Defender news in the last few weeks as Land Rover delivers a 21st century replacement for its do anything, go anywhere workhorse icon.In its 71-year history the Land Rover has sold more than two million Series and Defenders, delivering a vehicle that can tackle the worst of conditions in remote areas of the world, and keep communities functioning in terrain that’s almost impossible to traverse.
But the reality probably is that for many years it’s actually been the Toyota Land Cruiser which has fulfilled the role of go anywhere workhorse around the world, selling in more than 170 countries and now, some 68 years after it first arrived, passing the 10 million production milestone – five times the Land Rover’s sales.
Launched in 1951 as a military workhorse, and tested by tackling a samurai warriors climb to the Shinto Temple at the top of Mount Atago and the old Pilgrim route to the sixth station on Mount Fuji, the Land Cruiser, went on to be launched in the UK in 1975 and hasn’t looked back since, now selling more than 400,000 a year around the globe.
With many Land Cruisers still actively working for their living 50 years after they were delivered, Toyota promise its development will continue going forward to make it ever better.
And it will continue to be the world’s number one choice for a go anywhere, do anything workhorse.
