Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid
The Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show, boasting a 302bhp powertrain and a 37-mile electric range.
We’re pretty sure Toyota aren’t big fans of the plug-in hybrid route, but market demands are a bit more important – certainly in this transition from ICE cars to electric – than opinion, so we’re getting a new plug-in hybrid from Toyota – the Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid. The RAV4 plug-in hybrid was announced by Toyota last month, but now it’s made a debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show we have more details on what’s on offer.
Sitting at the top of the RAV4 range, the new Rav$ Plug-in builds on Toyota’s experience with the Prius Plug-in and delivers and electric 4WD powertrain delivering a useful 302bhp, enough to get to 62mph in 6.2 seconds.
That’s a chunk more than the regular RAV4 Hybrid thanks to a new high-capacity lithium-ion battery and boost converter for the power control unit in addition to the same 2.5 litre hybrid petrol engine the RAV4 hybrid has.
That all adds up to the usual daft emissions figures of just 30g/km – and commensurately daft official economy figures – and an official electric range of 37 miles, enough for the average daily commute.
We have no prices for the RAV4 plug-in hybrid yet, but they’ll turn up before it goes on sale in the second half of 2020.
