In a desperate effort to inject some fizz in to sales, Vauxhall is cutting the price of its range extender Ampera by £3,500 in the UK.

Although we still feel the range-extender is the right way for car makers to go to get the car buying public to accept EVs, the range-extender Vauxhall Ampera has not exactly been a runaway success.
So, with new competition on the way from the range-extender BMW i3, Vauxhall are taking drastic action to try and tempt buyers in to the Ampera and are slashing prices by £3,500.
The trouble is, that still means the Amerpa Positive will cost £28,750 and the Ampera Electron £30,495 and that’s after you – the taxpayer – has thrown in a £5,000 bribe to get you to buy.
We can’t see this price cut making any real impact on sales because the Ampera is still just too expensive to be a viable alternative for any kind of everyday motoring for everyday car buyers.
