Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport gets a tweak for 2014

The Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport – the fastest car under £30k available in the UK – has had minor cosmetic and mechanical tweaks for 2014.

If you want a swift and able car that costs under £30k, then the Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport, as a hatch or Sports Tourer (estate) should be a car to consider. An now it’s had a tweak for 2014 to make it a bit more appealing in line with the tweaks to the rest of the Insignia range.

The changes aren’t really enough to call this a facelift for the SuperSport, but despite the very minor cosmetic tweaks the changes under the skin are worthy of note.

The cosmetic tweaks to the Insignia SuperSport amount to a titivated grill and headlights and the tailpipe trim gets integrated in to the rear valence. And that appears to be it.

Inside the tweaks are similarly minor with some new dials, a tweak or three to the centre console and the addition of Bluetooth, Internet and 3D Nav.

Under the skin, Vauxhall has been playing with the SuperSport’s all wheel drive chassis and have changed around 60 per cent of the rear suspension’s components to deliver a significant handling improvement, with better damping giving an improved ride.

Tweaks the the SuperSport’s ESP are said to offer more precise handling and curb understeer and Vauxhall say they’ve also improved NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) to make the SuperSport’s cabin a nicer place to be.

The rest of the Supersport’s oily bits remain unchanged, so it still offers 320bhp from its 2.8 litre V6 Turbo, enough to get to 62mph in 5.9 seconds (6.1s in the estate), making it the UK’s fastest sub-£30k car.

The tweaked Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport costs from £29,749 for the hatch and £31,049 for the Sports Tourer and is now on sale.
