Vauxhall Zafira FIRE Recall back for 2019
The Vauxall Zafira is being recalled yet again over a fire hazard, with all the cars first recalled in 2015 back for a another fix.
Back in 2015, Vauxhall recalled the Zafira because of fire risks after a spate of Zafiras burning to a crisp for no apparent reason hit the headlines.Vauxhall estimated that recall at 220,000 at the time, but it turned out to be a bit more – 234,938 – and affected cars with either no air conditioning or manual Air Con.
But that was just the start of the Zafira fire saga, as having covered the initial recall in a couple of phases Vauxhall then had to recall the Zafira again in 2016 after the Sun investigated and found that cars that had been fixed were still likely to catch fire.
Three years on from the last recall for the Zafira, Vauxhall must have hoped the whole issue was history and they could move on. But it’s not.
Vauxhall are now recalling all the Zafiras recalled in the previous mess, this time because a plug that connects the resistor fuse can melt. Not quite the same issue, but all around the same HVAC problems as before.
Vauxhall are having to fit a revised wiring harness with extra fixing points and fit a new resistor. It’ll take around an hour to do and, of course, there will be no charge for owners.
But that’s hardly the point; who would want to buy a secondhand Zafira with this sort of history of botched fixes? Owners must realise their cars are worth nothing more than scrap now. Vauxhall should buy every single one back.
