This is the first Volvo XC40 TEASE. It’s going to be funky and colourful
The tease for the new Volvo XC40 has begun ahead of an expected debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, emphasising the XC40’s individuality.
We know the new Volvo XC40 will be revealed this year, and it looks like the debut of Volvo’s new compact SUV is getting close as the tease for the XC40 begins.Slightly surprisingly, the composite image (above) shows what Volvo has chosen to tease the dozens of interior and exterior colour combinations you’re going to be able to spec on the XC40.
It shows the materials Volvo is using, rather than expressing the vibrancy of the offerings, but no doubt they’re saving the colour palette for a later tease.
It seems Volvo has worked out that buyers like funk when it comes to small urban SUVs, so the XC40 is going to offer an XC40 with “vibrancy, individuality and playfulness” to attract a new breed of younger buyers, and buyers new to the Volvo brand.
Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo’s Chief Design Officer, said:
Our customer research clearly showed that for the XC40 and for this segment, we needed a wider selection of colours and materials than we usually offer. As Volvo Cars has never designed a car like the XC40 before, we could start from scratch and give it energy and playfulness.
Volvo say they have been inspired by stuff like street fashion, designer goods and pop culture, so it looks like you’re going to make your XC40 as individual as your imagination allows. Which will probably make some madly specced XC40s unsellable when the first owner tries to move it on.
The colour combinations for the exterior range from a solid monochromatic theme to dual combinations of vivid colours, with the interior seeing options including Lava Orange carpet and Oxide Red upholstery, with new trims and materials delivering a youthful feel.
It looks like the mad funky XC40 is going to be pitched mainly at the entry-level Momentum trim, with the XC40 Inscription being the more grown-up XC40 and the XC40 R-Design the usual sporty offering.
No doubt we’re in for a plethora of teases for the XC40 ahead of its likely debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
