Porsche 911 Carrera 911 with Turbos S power
The new Porsche 911 992, with its 3.0 litre turbo engine, gives tuners freedom to boost performance. And you can get Turbo S performance for just £1,200.
It’s just under a year since the new Porsche 911 – the ‘992’ 911 – arrived as Porsche updated its iconic model one more, its 976th iteration (or thereabouts) in its remarkable 56-year history, with the ‘base’ 911 992 arriving this summer. As always, the improvements to the 911 are not to its looks, which have changed little over the years, but to what’s underneath (and behind) although even the basic 911s now get what we used to call the wide body. And that probably makes the 911 Carrera, or Carrera 4, the pick of the litter, because it offers all the 911 goodness but at a lower price.
Its 3.0 litre turbo Boxster engine delivers 380bhp, putting its power through an eight-speed auto ‘box and, if you opt for the 4, and the Sport Chrono package, it’ll get to 62mph in 4.0 seconds.
Doing anything significant to a Porsche 911 with a naturally-aspirated engine used to be a very costly exercise, and the gains weren’t huge, but now the flat-six engine is a 3.0 litre with a turbo it opens up a world of possibilities. Just ask Litchfield Motors.
The British tuner has taken the standard 911 Carrera and given it something of a brain transplant, turning the base 911 in to a monster with the power of the previous generation 911 Turbo S.
That means a boost from the 911’s standard 380bhp and 332lb/ft of torque to a stunning 572bhp and 480lb/ft of torque. And all for just £1,200.
It may not be the most sensible thing you could do to your 911 992, but of you’ve already stuck down £83k to buy it, another £1,200 isn’t going to matter.
As long as you don’t make the most of the extra power all the time.

Will it work for the S in a Macan?
