McLaren Sports Series confirmed – the P13 is on its way

The McLaren Sports Series has been confirmed as the production McLaren P13 and will debut in Q2 2015 as a rival to the Porsche 911 and new Mercedes AMG GT.

McLaren confirmed officially late last year that the car we know as the McLaren P13 is on its way, but now we know it will known as the ‘McLaren Sports Series’ and will debut in Q2 2015.

It seems McLaren are planning to ‘name’ their cars (rather than the current mish-mash of numbers and letters) with each variant of the new Sports Series (coupe, Spider and Track-focused version) getting their own moniker. Whether that means a McLaren Bruce remains to be seen.

The Sports Series is aimed at cars like the new Mercedes AMG GT and Porsche 911 (and even the Ferrari California) and is expected to start at around £120k.

It will use the same carbon fibre MonoCell chassis and 3.8 litre turbo V8 as the 650S and P1, but in the Sports Series it will deliver 444bhp with performance to 62mph of just over 4 seconds.

McLaren are kicking off the launch campaign for the Sports Series with a series of 13 game changing events in McLaren, and world, history, using the ‘Black Swan Moments’ tag (first Black Swan Moments video below).
