The new Jaguar XJ finds its way in to Downing Street - 24 hours too late.
Jaguar have missed out on some stunning PR for the new Jaguar XJ by failing to get the XJ in Government hands in time for the election.
Yes, I know we’re supposed to be on the pulse of everything that’s going on in the world of cars. And honestly, we usually are. But these last few days we’ve had rolling news from the Beeb going on in the office as we’ve become a little obsessed with the political machinations unfolding in Westminster.
But we did find a way to gel the two together when – to a man (and woman) – we all asked the same question ‘How did Jaguar miss out on getting the new Jaguar XJ front and centre in this spectacle?’ After all, the UK Government use XJs as Prime Ministerial cars. How hard could it be?
We still don’t know the answer, even though we asked Jaguar. We asked them why David Cameron went to the Palace in an old shape XJ. The response was because it was armoured and he was now Prime Minister (not technically correct – as we pointed out – although we did concede that observation was a bit pedantic).
Actually, we were busy winding Jaguar up about the lack of new XJs in customer hands. But it seemed a good time to throw in the ‘Cameron Question’. They did send us the BBC grab above to prove that a new XJ was in the action, but a picture of a new XJ in Downing Street 24 hours too late for the money shot is a small saving grace. Why hadn’t Jaguar got the armoured XJs to the Met in plenty of time? The election was planned, after all.
This has really surprised us. Jaguar’s PR has been so on the ball this last year, but we have to put this down as a big missed opportunity for some stunning worldwide PR.
Oh, well. Can’t win ’em all.
