The new McLaren dealers have been pushing McLaren to deliver them more than just the MP4-12C, so the new McLaren F1 should now arrive by 2012.
Away from Formula One the focus at McLaren recently has been about building their new ‘Factory’ for producing a new line of cars. And the push in to the public consciousness has been all about the 458 Italia/LP560 competing MP4-12C.
But we’ve know for quite a while that there will be a new McLaren F1, and that it will be a proper production model rather than the limited edition run of cars the original F1 was. Initially we weren’t expecting the new F1 until 2014, although we have heard a few rumblings just lately from newly appointed McLaren delaers that they want more to play with than just the MP4-12C, and sooner rather than later.
So reports surfacing today that McLaren are now aiming to get the new McLaren F1 in showrooms in the next two years makes sense. It seems that a big hurry-up is being aimed at the new F1 to see it surface much earlier than originally planned.
We could now bluster on about how the new F1 will be as radical as the original F1, with innovative features making it as far ahead of the pack when it arrives as the original F1 was in 1994. We could also tell you its going to be Bugatti Veyron money, probably have a three seat configuration and feature not just carbon fibre but other lightweight, ‘Space Age’ materials.
All the preceding are educated guesses. But we don’t actually know. But if the new F1 is really only 2 years away we can now start digging for some real detail.
We’ll let you know.
