It was May 2013 when the new Mercedes S-Class was revealed, June when order books opened and production started. And by December Mercedes was having to increase S-Class production to cope with demand.
It could be argued that some of that impressive sales total was because of pent-up demand for the new S-Class as buyers stopped buying the previous generation S-Class in anticipation of the new arrival, but Mercedes has revealed that sales so far this year (2014) have already been over 75,000, so that’s not the reason.
Ola Källenius, Mercedes Sales and Marketing boss, said:
The sales figure of 100,000 S-Class models in just one year is the ultimate proof: the combination of high-class quality, exemplary efficiency and a host of innovative assistance and safety systems delights our customers and meets their highest demands.
We extended our range of luxury cars at the end of September by including two fascinating and promising models in the guise of the new S-Class coupe and the S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID.
And with the new S-Class Coupe – and further S-Class variants – coming on stream, these impressive sales look set to rise further still.
