Nissan Patrol (2010 / 2011) revealed

February 15, 2010 By Cars UK

The Nissan Patrol 2010

Nissan has revealed their latest version of the Patrol in the UAE

Nissan has launched the 2010 / 2011 version of the Nissan Patrol featuring an upmarket interior and a 5.6 litre V8.

Update 22/2/2010: We’ve now heard from Nissan UK and they say “We will not be selling the new Patrol in the UK”. Which is pretty categoric. Shame really.

The Nissan Patrol is not a car we see a lot of in the UK. Probably because Nissan don’t deem it suitable for UK buyers so no longer offer it to buyers looking for a big, rugged go-anywhere full-sized SUV. But that might change with the latest version of the Nissan Patrol just launched in the Middle East.

The Nissan Patrol is Nissan’s answer to the Toyota Landcruiser. It’s a huge 7-seat SUV with a reputation – justly deserved – as a bullet-proof SUV that tackles the most hostile of territory with total disdain. In fact you’re most likely to see a Nissan Patrol on TV news with ‘UN’ stickers on the side as it ‘Patrols’ one hostile territory or another.

In the Eco-obsessed UK Nissan probably thinks there’ll be no demand for a 5.6 litre petrol V8 behemoth, and they may be right. But Nissan have really gone all-out with the 2011 Patrol and seem to have managed to keep all the bullet-proof bits but thrown a box of Range Rover toys in to the mix. Which could make this giant a really appealing buy.

The 5.6 litre V8 delivers 400bhp and as much torque; it gets a new electronic 4WD system; 4-wheel independent suspension; hydraulic body roll mitigation; hill start and hill decent.  Inside the new Patrol gets more room and a much more upmarket interior, which does tend to indicate that either the UN wants a few more home comforts or Nissan are going to market the new Patrol as a high-end SUV for all needs – not just hostile terrain.

Or maybe they’re happy just to keep the Middle East market happy with lots of gloss and toys. They have hostile territory and deep pockets. We’ll have to wait and see. But if you want more gen you can have a look at the Nissan Patrol (2010) Press Release Nissan issued when they revealed the new Patrol in Abu Dhabi (UAE) yesterday.

We have asked Nissan UK if the new Patrol will find its way to the UK. But they haven’t answered. So we’ll take that as a no. Or maybe they just don’t know.

I live and work in Abu Dhabi, UAE and recently test drove the new’ish model. From the minute you get in, you feel that Nissan are now targeting a completely different clientèle – the same clientèle as the Land Crusher (sorry Cruiser) and has lost any resemblance to the old Patrol. At around £40K for an entry level model, you wont be seeing these babies anywhere near a hostile zone, the deserts of Mid East or the muddy fields of the UK.

I drove a 2002 model when I worked in Saudi and they were second to none. Question is : would I buy one of these new over-the-top models – even if I could afford one ? the answer has to be a BIG no. Reason is that Nissan has completely lost the plot with these new Patrols. Patrols used to be affordable, looked and felt rugged and very outdoor oriented.

Sorry Nissan, try harder next time ..

I have owned patrols for the last 8-9 years both in the UK and Antigua where I sold land and new-build property in the most obscure and rugged conditions – mainly on the sides of hills with unmade roads which were horribly slippery after any more than 1 day of heavy rainfall. The Patrol was the best vehicle for the job and never let me down. Upon my return to the UK I purchased a 3L SVE Station Wagon Patrol which is now 4 years old and which I was hoping to replace with another Patrol when the lease expires. Having been in communication with Nissan UK, I was greatly dissapointed to learn that the UK is not going to be a target country any longer for Patrol sales which is a great shame as I now live (in the UK) on the wrong side of a road river ford which is normally at least 2.5ft deep in the summer and upto 3.5ft deep in the winter – and which I have to drive through to leave my country lane every day. I have looked at the Nissan Navara and Pathfinder along with the new Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian, but neither manufacturer offers the benefits of a Patrol – perhaps I will have to look into contacting a specialist 4×4 importer once the 2010/11 patrol is readily available. Nissan UK have made a BIG mistake about a BIG car! The only plus is that I probably wont have any trouble selling my old Patrol at a decent price as there is now likely to be a demand from the loyal old school Patrol owners.

I to am a big Patrol fan and having just returned from Doha,Qatar in the midle East and having seen and test driven the new Patrol I am gutted to hear we might not be getting them in the UK so I to will be looking to import one from possibly Spain if they go on sale there.I have kept my present Patrol 3.0 SVE for 5 years waiting to replace it with the new model so come on Nissan there are a lot of folk waiting for the new model to be intrduced into the UK.
