BMW look set to debut the 2012 BMW M5 as a concept at the Shangai Motor SHow in April before the production-ready M5 arrives at Frankfurt.
It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for the latest BMW M5 (F10). We’ve certainly been running stories about the 2012 M5 for a very long time.
We had, of late, expected BMW to follow form and show the latest M5 as a concept at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, with the production-ready M5 putting in an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. But it’s not happening.
Although we still expect the production M5 to arrive at Frankfurt, it now seems BMW are intent on showing the M5 Concept at Shanghai in April instead. Which probably tells you all you need to know about just how important the Chinese market is to BMW. We’d better get used to it.
We’re not expecting any huge surprises with the 2012 M5, although it will be more than a little interesting to see just how BMW execute it. We expect it to get a tweaked and fettled version of the 4.4 litre V8 found in the X6, but with up to 600bhp driving the rear wheels through BMW’s M-DCT dual clutch ‘box. And all in a lighter, stiffer body.
In addition to the 2012 BMW M5 debuting at Shanghai, you can also expect to see the debut of the 6-Series Coupe and the 5-Series Hybrid. And very possibly more.
The rise and rise of Shanghai.
