2016 Audi R8 Spyder caught on video at Nurburgring
The 2016 Audi R8 Spyder – the soft-top take on Audi’s latest R8 V10 – is caught on video testing at the Nurburgring ahead of a 2016 debut.
Audi’s new R8 – the Audi ‘supercar’ – arrived back in March, and this time out it only gets a V10 engine option. But it will be getting a soft-top take for some open air V10 fun, and the new Audi R8 Spyder has now been caught for the first time on video ahead of a launch at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show (or perhaps before).Just as it did last time round, the R8 Spyder gets a longer rear deck – and we lose sight of the engine – to accommodate a soft top, a soft top that looks to mimic that on the previous model, complete with buttresses each side and a rear window that retracts.
It’s all but certain that the R8 Spyder will be offered with the two V10 engine options the coupe has – the regular V10 with 532bhp or the V10 Plus with 610bhp – but the Spyder will weigh a chunk more than the coupe so performance will be a bit blunted.
But ‘blunted’ performance is still likely to see the V10 Plus Spyder get to 62mph in under 3.5 seconds – quick by any standards.
The most likely debut for the new R8 Spyder is likely to be the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2016, although it’s possible it could arrive at Detroit in the early new year.
