2016 Ford Kuga FACELIFT unwrapped in Barcelona

A facelift for the Ford Kuga SUV has been revealed at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with cosmetic tweaks and new engine. On sale autumn 2016.

When Ford revealed earlier this month that it was planning to reveal a new car at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we reckoned it was most likely to be a facelift for the Kuga. And it is.

Following on from the debut of the Kuga’s colonial sibling – the US Ford Escape – Ford has pretty much taken the US Escape’s facelift and bolted Kuga badges on it to create the 2016 Ford Kuga (or should that be the 2017 Ford Kuga?) for the UK and Europe.

Cosmetic changes for the new Kuga include a restyled bonnet, new grille, new front bumper, LED running lights, new Fog lights, bi-xenon headlights and new tail lights on a slightly titivated boot.

There’s also a new range of alloys, from 17-19″ depending on model and which option boxes you tick, and a new colour option – Copper Pulse.

Inside has had a few teaks too, including a new dashboard. fewer buttons and a bigger infotainment screen (although we’re struggling to see much difference). The Kuga also comes with Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Under the bonnet, the new Kuga now gets the option of Ford’s new 1.5 litre TDCi diesel with 120bhp, promising official economy of 64.2mpg, to go alongside the 2.0 litre TDCi with 150bhp or 180bhp and the 1.5 litre EcoBoost petrol with 120bhp or 150bhp.

So now we know what the 2016/17 Ford Kuga has to offer, the question is: when is the new Ford Kuga out?

Surprisingly, it seems you’re going to have to wait until October to get one in the UK.
