The interior of the 2016 Mercedes E-Class has been revealed ahead of a debut of the new E-Class at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2016.
As teases for a new car go, revealing the interior is definitely a notch up on shadowy outline photos, and the interior of the 2016 Mercedes E-Class is certainly striking enough to whet the appetite.Mercedes has taken the interior of the S-Class as its inspiration for the new E-Class, and looks to have delivered an interior that will give it a distinct edge against rivals like the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF, with the dashboard made up of a pair of 12.3″ HD displays and the cabin swathed in high quality materials.
The new hi-tech dashboard will feature right across the E-Class range (with the exception of the base model which makes do with analogue dials and a stand alone 8.4″ colour display), and there’s Apple CarPlay and touch-sensitive steering wheel pads to control the display, which can be configured to your taste with a choice of Classic, Sport and Progressive.
The S-Class theme continues with the wraparound dash, quartet of centre vents, COMAND, seat controls on the door panels and a wireless charging mat for your phone.
It’s a convincing interior for a mid-class car, and looks to be as enticing and appealing as the S-Class. But by not offering the big digital dashboard on the entry-level Avantagrde model, Mercedes is consigning it very much to entry-level status. Will that push buyers in to more expensive models, or will it drive them in to the arms of Audi, BMW and Jaguar?
The 2016 Mercedes E-Class will be revealed in full at the Detroit Motor Show in January, and will be followed – at some point – by the new E-Class Estate, Coupe, Cabriolet and the E63 AMG models.
