The Mercedes GLA facelift is revealed at the Detroit Motor Show, with cosmetic updates for the interior and exterior and an increased ride height.
The 2017 Mercedes GLA facelift – revealed at the Detroit Motor Show – comes with the usual cosmetic tweaks you’d expect, but it also gets a further raised ride height to try and stop it looking like a rather ungainly hatch. It’s not exactly what BMW has done with the latest X1, but it does differentiate the GFA further from the A -Class, although it’s still a long way off being a proper small SUV.
The extra 30mm on the ride height comes as standard, although you can delete it, and joins the cosmetic changes Mercedes has wrought to create a refreshed GLA for 2017.
Cosmetic stuff includes the usual facelift fodder of new bumpers and tweaked lights, a bit of a play with the aerodynamics and the option of ‘Canyon Beige’ paint. We know, it’s hard to contain your excitement.
The interior gets a bit of a titivate too, with some new materials and switches and some added options like a surround camera and kick to open boot.
Engine options remain unchanged in the UK for 2017, although you can have 4MATIC four-wheel drive on the GLA 220.
The range-topping AMG GLA 45 gets some additional tweaks, with a new AMg grille, two-tone 20″ alloys, pretend leather dash top with red stitching, instrument tweaks and some extra AMG badging. Just so you know.
The 2017 Mercedes GLA goes on sale today, 9 January 2017) at Mercedes’ UK dealers.
