Lamborghini will reveal the LP570-4 SV at the Geneva Motor Show, followed by a rear wheel drive LP590-2 SV later in 2010/2011.
Lamborghini have commited themselves to turning up at every major motor show with a new model. Which is quite a boast from a small supercar maker. Of course, they won’t be new cars, just a variation on a theme. But these are Lamborghinis, so a variation on a theme is still very appealing.
The last new Lamborghini we had was the Reventon Roadster at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it looks as if Lamborghini are planning an SV version of the Gallardo to show at Geneva in the next few weeks – the Lamborghini LP570-4 SV. In fact, we reported on the Superleggera version of the LP560-4 back in September, but it now seems clear that Lamborghini are going to use the SV moniker instead of Superleggera.
Think of the LP570-4 SV as a Gallardo version of the LP670-4 SV. That turned out to be a cracking car and sold out in very short order, so Lamborghini are obviously hoping to repeat that success with the Gallardo. As you’ve probably guessed, the LP570-4 SV gets a modest 10bhp jump over its sibling the LP560-4 SV, with weight stripping in the way Lamborghini did with the Gallardo Superleggera.
When we ran the report on a Superleggera version of the LP560-4 back in September, we did wonder if Lamborghini would use the Balboni LP550-2 as the basis for the car. That would make a lot of sense as the two wheel drive would make the car more driver-focused and lighter. But it seems as if Lamborghni have another new model up the sleeve with the Lamborghini LP-590-2 SV waiting in the wings for later in 2010/2011, with rear wheel drive and an extra 30bhp.
Yes, they may just be variations on a theme. But keep ’em coming, we say.
