Making of the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo (video)

Porsche has released a video chronicling the development of the Panamera Sport Turismo as the first model extension of the Panamera.

The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Concept we saw at Paris in the autumn may have been billed as a ‘Concept’, but Porsche are going to a lot of trouble to detail a car they claim not yet to have decided to produce.

Earlier this month we had a video from Porsche of the Panamera Sport Turismo on the move with comments and insights on the design process, and now we get a more detailed look at the development and thinking behind the transition from ugly duckling Panamera to stunningly good looking Panamera Sport Turismo.

Porsche don’t want to call the Sport Turismo a Station Wagon, but that is effectively what the Sport Turismo is (and it can’t be a true Shooting Brake with four doors). Porsche consider the Sport Turismo a perfect combination of functionality and form; highly emotional and very sporty. And they’re not wrong.

The Panamera itself is a stunning car; quick, accommodating, remarkably agile and appealing in every way – apart from how it looks. The Sport Turismo adds proper visual appeal to the Panamera for the first time and makes the regular Panamera look bulbous and incongruous, despite the Sport Turismo obviously being firmly based on the Panamera’s design.

The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo just a concept? Not in a million years  Expect it to arrive by 2015 – together with a two-door Panamera Coupe and a facelift for the Panamera – and add a real fillip to Panamera sales.
