Rolls Royce Wraith Drophead OFFICIALLY confirmed

A drophead (convertible) version of the Rolls Royce Wraith Coupe has been officially confirmed and will hit Rolls Royce dealers in 2016.

The Rolls Royce Wraith – a Ghost Coupe in all but name – arrived in 2013 as an almost properly sporting Rolls Royce, one designed for driving rather than being driven in.

But the arrival of the Wraith did beg the question ‘How long will it be before there’s a Wraith Convertible?‘, and we thought that question was answered when Rolls Royce boss, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, said in November last year that a drophead Wraith would make it in to production.

But it seems the boss saying something doesn’t necessarily make it official, so Rolls Royce has now officially confirmed today that a new Rolls Royce model – offering effortless, open-top touring – is under development and will arrive in 2016.

The aforementioned Torsten Müller-Ötvös, this time officially, said:

I am truly delighted to confirm today the development of our new model which will open an exciting new chapter in the great story of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

We are currently developing an exciting and thoroughly contemporary interpretation of a pinnacle drophead tourer which will introduce even more discerning men and women to Rolls-Royce ownership.

Power will almost certainly come from the same from the same 6.6 litre V12 as the Wraith – which gets 624bhp and can get to 62mph in a very un-Rolls 4.6 seconds – and command a price heading up towards £300k.
