It’s the end of the line for R-S and GT badges at Jaguar – like the Jaguar XKR-S GT (pictured)

Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations boss, John Edwards, has confirmed that there will be no more R-S or GT models from Jaguar – just SVR range-toppers.
For the last twenty-odd years or so Jaguar has been bolting an R badge on to cars that go faster and perform better – like the XJR, XFR and even F-Type R – but in more recent times it’s managed to roll out more letters to bolt on to the ‘R’ to denote something even more special, like R-S and even R-S GT – but not any more.Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Operations (SVO) boss, John Edwards, has told Car and Driver what many of us worked out when the Range Rover Sport turned up at Goodwood last year – SVR will be the only badge from Jaguar or Land Rover that denotes ‘ultimate’ performance in the future.
In fact, Edwards makes it clear that there won’t be a badge beyond SVR for performance JLR vehicles, so we won’t be seeing the equivalent of an AMG Black Series from Jaguar or Land Rover, but that SVR will be the single badge denoting the range-topping performance iteration of any Jaguar or Land Rover. Period.
We’ve already had the Range Rover Sport SVR arrive, and it looks like the next JLR car in line to get the SVR treatment will be the F-Type Coupe, with an F-Type SVR expected with the same 567bhp version of the supercharged V8 the limited run Project 7 F-Type got.
But which Jaguar or Range Rover will be next to get the SVR treatment?
