Lewis Hamilton wins the Canadian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton drove a controlled race to take a win at the 2015 Canada Grand Prix, beating team mate Nico Rosberg in to second. Bottas took third for Williams.
Despite a less than impressive practice for the 2015 Canadian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton performed when it mattered and took a convincing pole, which has turned in to a controlled victory where he looked in charge throughout the race, despite having to conserve fuel.Behind Lewis, Nico Rosberg took second place, but Lewis’s win takes him 17 points clear of his team mate, and only real rival, with a somewhat difficult weekend for Ferrari letting Bottas in for third spot with the Ferraris of Raikkonen and Vettel taking fourth and fifth.
It could easily have been a third place for Raikkonen, but a spin caused by the hybrid system kicking in unexpectedly probably robbed him of the opportunity to finish where he started. Vettel, on the other hand, had an eventful push from the back of the grid, a bad pit stop and some near misses and still managed fifth place.
Vettel managed to avoid fighting with Grosjean for fifth after the Lotus driver misjudged a cut back after overtaking Manor’s Stevens and ended up pitting. He finally finished tenth.
Massa was another of the ‘back of the pack superstar starters’, but he managed to guide his Williams to sixth place, with Maldonado and Hulkenberg in seventh and eighth and the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo in ninth.
It was a surprisingly uneventful race in Canada, with no ‘weather’ and no safety cars, which meant nothing to help the McLarens of Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso salvage something. In fact, they both ended up retiring, but from the sound of it they may well have run out of fuel before the end anyway.
Alonso was so frustrated he complained the car was so bad it was making him look like an amateur. Things can only get better. Possibly.
