Ford has revealed a trio of new Vignale models – Kuga, Edge and S-Max – at Geneva, with the same glitzy spec as the Mondeo Vignale.

Ford are convinced that adding a new, almost sub-brand, Vignale luxury offering to their mainstream cars will be enough to convince car buyers that Ford can match offerings from ‘Premium’ makers – like BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Land Rover and Audi – and do it at a more affordable price.

We’ve already had the new Ford Mondeo Vignale with cosmetic tweaks and sybaritic additions, and now Ford has rolled out the Vignale trim to three new models – the Kuga, Edge and S-Max – at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

To be exact, Ford has actually rolled out a new five-door version of the Mondeo Vignale, a concept version of the Kuga Vignale (which will arrive next year) and production versions of the Edge SUV and S-Max Vignale.

All the new Vignales get the same sort of makeover as the Mondeo did (and, indeed, the new five-door Mondeo Vignale does) with extra lumps of chrome trim, Ford’s Vignale grille, special paintwork, polished 19″ alloys, quilted ‘Windsor’ leather and Ford’s latest SYNC 3 infotainment.

To emphasise that Vignale is the ‘luxury’ Ford offering, Vignale customers will get a degree of preferential treatment, including a dedicated service to help owners arrange exclusive travel and lifestyle experiences.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Ford’s Vignale offerings, and we hope they do manage to take buyers away from ‘Premium’ makers with the new models.

But even if Ford don’t succeed in poaching from other brands with Vignale, they’re still going to see a healthy chunk of buyers opting for the Vignale models instead of the current top-end offerings, which should help Ford’s bottom line.
