The new Ford Ka+ will launch in UK & Europe this summer (Ka Concept pictured)
The new Ford KA+ – Ford’s new take on the Ka for the UK and Europe – will launch this summer and go on sale later in 2016.
Earlier this year we discovered that production of the Ford Ka was about end (it’s built in Poland alongside its ‘sibling under the skin Fiat 500’), so we assumed that meant the new Ka was about to launch, probably at the Geneva Motor Show. But we were wrong. But it seems we were only out by a few months, as Ford reveals the new Ka – to be called the Ford Ka+ – will launch this summer and go on sale in the UK and Europe later in 2016 as a five-door rival to the current crop of ‘City’ compact cars like the Hyundai i10 and Volkswagen Up!.
The shift to a five-door Ka+ is aimed to make the new Ka a bit more practical and drive sales back up.
Currently, Ford’s Ka isn’t selling massive numbers – it’s out-sold more than 3-to-1 by the Fiat Panda – and Ford hope the shift to a more practical car will change that.
Ford have also been playing with the Ka – already on sale in Brazil and India – to make it more European, which we assume means higher quality materials and tweaked underpinnings, to make it more appealing to buyers in Europe with higher expectations.
The new Ka+ is expected to cost from around £8,000 when it goes on sale later in 2016.
