New Nissan Qashqai & X-Trail WILL be built in the UK
Despite the UK’s vote for Brexit – and the chance of future tariffs with the EU – Nissan has voted for the UK by confirming it will build the next Qashqai and X-Trail in Sunderland.
Nissan has made a bit of noise about the UK voting for Brexit, and Carlos Ghosn stated he would be looking to the UK government for support if Nissan are to stay manufacturing in the UK.Nissan’s stance led to high level meetings between the government and Nissan, after which Nissan seemed happy they had a future manufacturing in the UK and confirming that today with news that the new Qashqai will be built in Sunderland as will the next X-Trial.
The news is a big boost for the government as we move to leave the EU, not only securing the jobs in Sunderland and the supply chain, but adding more with the arrival of the next X-Trail taking production in Sunderland up to 600,000 cars a year.
Carlos Ghosn, Nissan CEO, said:
I am pleased to announce that Nissan will continue to invest in Sunderland. Our employees there continue to make the plant a globally competitive powerhouse, producing high-quality, high-value products every day
The support and assurances of the U.K. government enabled us to decide that the next-generation Qashqai and X-Trail will be produced at Sunderland. I welcome British Prime Minister Theresa May’s commitment to the automotive industry in Britain and to the development of an overall industrial strategy.
Good news for Nissan. Good news for the government. Good news for the motoring industry.
