The 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet revealed ahead of an LA Motor Show debut
The 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet has been revealed as the final piece of the A5 range, joining the A5 Coupe and Fastback ahead of an LA Motor Show debut.
We’ve already seen the new Audi A5 and S5 Coupe and the new A5 and S5 Sportback, and Audi now complete the trilogy with the arrival of this, the 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet (and S5 Cabriolet) ahead of a Los Angeles Motor Show debut later this month.Essentially an A5 Coupe without a folding cloth roof, the 2017 A5 Cabriolet can fold its roof away in just 15 seconds at speeds up to 30mph, with rollover hoops and sidebars keeping occupants safe even if the worst happens.
Under the skin its much the same as the A5 Coupe, with independent suspension, electromechanical steering and the option of adaptive dampers, with the addition of RSJs in the sills and bracing struts elsewhere hoping to compensate for the loss of rigidity chopping the roof off has bestowed on the Cabriolet.
Engine options for the A5 Cabriolet at launch will be just a single petrol offering – 2.0 litre TFSI with 249bhp – and a pair of diesels – the 2.0 litre TDI with 187bhp or 3.0 litre TDI with 215bhp – as well as the choice of regular FWD and optional quattro 4WD.
But as well as the A5 Cabriolets there’s also the S5 Cabriolet complete with the 349bhp 3.0 litre TFSI good for a sprint to 62mph in 5.1 seconds, with standard quattro 4WD and eight-speed tiptronic.
Audi say the new A5 and S5 Cabriolets will reach the UK in December, by which time we should have prices.
