Mercedes-AMG four-door GT Concept (pictured) is heading for Geneva
A Mercedes-AMG GT Concept with four doors, aimed at the Porsche Panamera and based on the next generation CLS, is previewed ahead of Geneva.
The next AMG standalone model looks to be just around the corner (well, in the next year or so) as this four-door AMG GT Concept (image above) is previewed ahead of a debut at next week’s Geneva Motor Show.AMG are being very tight lipped about exactly what the new four-door GT will offer, but we have a clue or two from industry gossip.
Instead of being based on the bespoke aluminium structure of the GT, this four-door will instead use the platform from the next generation CLS (which should be the CLE).
Looks are clearly influenced by the AMG GT – just as the Panamera’s were by the 911 – to shine the GT’s gloss on the new arrival, with a big diffuser and central exhaust at the back and a roofline which looks very coupe. But this will be a four-door liftback.
Power is likely to come from the same 4.0 litre V8 we already see in the E 63 AMG, but it could deliver over 600bhp thanks in part to a 48V electrical system allowing an electric motor in the gearbox to give a boost.
The power will go through all four wheels with Mercedes’ 4MATIC, with air suspension and variable dampers, as well as rear axle steering.
Arriving next week at the Geneva Motor Show as a concept – when we should get more concrete details – expect the four-door AMG GT to arrive as a production model by spring 2018.
