The Kia Stonic – a compact SUV from the Korean car makers – is officially revealed in Amsterdam as Kia add a fourth Crossover/SUV to their range.
It seems our little revelation yesterday that the Kia Stonic, the new compact SUV from Kia, would be revealed in July was wide of the mark, Although the words were those of a Hyundai Senior VP, not ours. But our report this morning with the first official photos of the Stonic meant the reveal was actually imminent, and now it’s happened. Say hello to the new Kia Stonic, Kia’s take on the new Hyundai Kona.
As we said this morning, the Stonic isn’t has bold a design as the Kona, but Kia are keen you know that it will be endlessly customisable, with a variety of contrast colours available for the roof and lots of interior trim options.
You get the expected ‘Tiger Nose’, sharp feature lines on smooth surfaces, a ‘Targa’ style roof (no, it’s not really a Targa), black plastic cladding round the lower bits, skid plates and a design which won’t frighten the horses.
Engine options, certainly to start with, are the 1.0 litre T-DGI with 118bhp, naturally aspirated 1.25 and 1.4 litre lumps and a 1.6 litre diesel for those who need to care about BIK. All versions of the Stonic will be FWD.
Inside, the Stonic takes its lead from the new Rio and gets more of those customisable options, a 7″ infotainment (well, probably on the higher-up models), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus stuff like heated front seats, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and High Beam Assist.
Kia say the new Stinic will be available from Q3 2017. Expect prices to start from around £14.5k.
