New Kia Stonic compact SUV photos LEAK early
The new Kia Stonic Compact SUV, which is due for an official reveal in July, has leaked early on the interwebs, with interior and exterior photos.
We thought the new Kia Stonic – Kia’s compact SUV take on Hyundai’s new Kona – was going to get revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Or at least we did until yesterday.
Yesterday we reported a senior VP at Hyundai telling reporters in South Korea that the Stonic would actually be revealed in July, just a month after the Kona officially bowed in. But now we’re not sure when the Kona is going to be revealed.
That’s because the first photos of the Stonic have leaked online (above and below) as Spanish website Autodato publish the Stonic in all its glory, but they also claim the Stonic is due to be revealed in Amsterdam this week. Either that, or our translation has screwed up.
Whenever the Stonic is officially revealed – today, next month or in September – it does seem Kia has been a little less bold with its design than Hyundai has with the Kona.
In fact, the Stonic looks like it has a mix of design cues from both Kia’s current SUV range and the new Rio, and does look far more mainstream generic urban SUV than the Kona.
From what we can see, the interior looks to be pretty devoid of buttons and looks to rely on the central infotainment screen for the majority of functions, no doubt with a chunk of connectivity and tech too.
If the Kia Stonic does debut today, or later this week, in Amsterdam, we’ll be back with all the details.
