The Honda Civic Saloon is heading for the UK
The Honda Civic Saloon is coming to the UK as Honda deliver a four-door version of the Civic in to the UK market for the first time. On sale in August.
You’d be forgiven for thinking, as most of us do, that the mainstream market for saloon cars is dead and buried as buyers continue to flock in to SUVs and Crossover. But the return of the Honda Civic saloon to the UK tells us Honda think we’re all wrong.Honda will put the saloon version of the Civic on sale in the UK in August – the first time there’s been a Honda saloon on sale here since the Accord was dumped in 2014 – and unlike the Civic Hatch, which is built in the UK, the Civic saloon will be imported from Turkey.
You can expect the saloon to be much the same as the Hatch – apart from the boot on the back – and Honda say it will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options, including the 1.0 i-VTEC petrol with CVT or manual and the 1.6 i-DTEC diesel with a manual or new nine-speed automatic.
Honda UK’s Phil Webb said:
The Civic is a core model for Honda in Europe and has been at the heart of the brand’s strong sales and manufacturing heritage, with the hatchback built in Swindon. The arrival of the saloon to the UK market compliments the Civic family and will be a great addition to our showrooms alongside what is already a very successful range for Honda.
Can Honda find a market for the saloon Civic in the UK now the sector has been pretty much abandoned by other mainstream makers? Time will tell.
