Andy Murray gets one of the FIRST Jaguar I-Pace customer cars
The new Jaguar I-Pace electric SUV has got a new star owner, with tennis ace Andy Murray getting his new I-Pace delivered by Jaguar’s Formula E driver Nelson Piquet jr.
It seems Andy Murray promised he’d do his bit by getting in to an electric car during WWF’s World Earth Hour, and he’s fulfilled that by getting one of the first customer Jaguar I-Pace models to be delivered.Of course, this is big profile Andy Murray – two-time Wimbledon winner – so he didn’t have to traipse down to his local Jaguar dealers to take delivery of his new I-Pace. Jaguar came to him.
Not only that, but they sent Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver Nelson Piquet Jr along to do the handover and make sure Andy got a hands-on presentation. Don’t expect similar treatment when you get your I-Pace.
Andy Murray said:
It’s important we all take small steps to live a more sustainable life and think about the actions we can make to look after our planet. This is one of the reasons I’m making the switch to driving Jaguar’s new all-electric I-PACE. It’s clean and safe, but also has the world class design and sports performance that suits my lifestyle.
But VIP handover or not, Andy has chosen a good time to get in to an electric car, and the I-Pace is very much the EV du jour, offering the promise of an EV SUV which really can replace an ICE SUV without (much) compromise.
With a range of 300 miles (around 200 miles in the real world, probably) it offers nearly 400bhp and impressive performance (it’ll feel quicker than the headline figures thanks to the instant torque from the electric motors), and promises to be eminently practical thanks to its rapid charging ability.
For now, in the UK, that’s limited to 50kW charging, which takes around 85 minutes for an 80 per cent charge, although it will work with 100kW chargers once they’re rolled out in the UK and then charging time will be cut to 40 minutes. But charging at home will take more like 12 hours.
