Volkswagen T-ROC gets new 1.6 litre diesel option
The Volkswagen T-ROC can now be bought with a new 1.6 litre TDI diesel engine, adding to the three petrol engine and single 2.0 litre diesel option. But why would you want one?
Volkswagen’s compact T-ROC SUV appears to be doing good business, selling over 100,000 so far, and, until now, it came with a choice of three petrol engines and just a single diesel option, as VW’s focus moves away from diesel engines which caused them so many problems. But now VW has announced it’s adding another diesel option for the T-ROC in the guise of an entry-level 1.6 litre TDI with 113bhp and WLTP emissions of 115g/km. It comes only with FWD, unlike the 2.0 litre diesel which delivers 4WD, and costs from £21,290.
The new engine can be had with any of the T-ROC’s models – S, SE, Design, SEL and R-Line – and the prices rise to £27,010 if you opt for the new engine with the R-Line trim – which makes the new diesel £2,335 more expensive than the current petrol entry-level T-Roc.
That entry-level T-ROC comes with VW’s 1.0 litre TSI petrol which has the same power output (although less torque), and we really can’t see why anyone would choose the diesel over the petrol unless they do stellar miles. For anyone buying a T-ROC for normal family use the petrol is by far the best option.
Don’t be fooled in to thinking its worth buying the diesel instead of the petrol for a family runaround. It’s not.
