Lotus celebrates its 70th with a burning rubber ’70’ logo (video)

Lotus is 70 years old this year, and to celebrate they’ve delivered a video of two Lotus cars doing their thing at Hethel and creating a real-time ’70th’ logo in rubber.

It’s 70 years since Colin Chapman built his first competition car, and Lotus are celebrating that 70th anniversary by demonstrating what Chapman strived for in his cars – light weight and brilliant handling – is still in evidence today, with a new video shot at the Lotus test track at Hethel.

Lotus took to the track to film the video with an Exige Sport 410 and an Evora GT410 Sport, piloted by Gavan Kershaw (Head of Attributes) and Daniel Peck (Vehicle Dynamics Engineer), to show just how nimble and dynamic modern Lotus cars are.

Lotus want you to know that what you see in the video below doesn’t rely on trickery, CGI or artificial aids, but is actually what was achieved by the two drivers in their cars, creating a ’70’ logo in rubber on the track at Hethel.

It’s a lighthearted way to celebrate the continuation of Colin Chapman’s legacy 70 years on, but it can also be seen as a joyful celebration of what’s still to come, as Lotus enter a new era of Geely ownership which genuinely promises to put them back at the top of the car tree.
