Lamborghini Murcielago – made in IRAN with Hyundai power

An Iranian company has produced a Lamborghini Murcielago using reverse engineering to exactly copy the original. But it’s got a Hyundai V6.

The Lamborghini Murcielgao may be a Lamborghini which went out of production in 2010, but it looks set to have a re-birth if a mysterious Iranian company has anything to do with it.

A team of Iranian engineers have spent the last four years faithfully recreating – at least in form – every part of the Murcielago from a CAD file, including all body parts and a chassis they say is exactly the same too.

Having faithfully recreated the Murcielago, the engineers seem to have had a light bulb moment and realised that the Murcielgao’s V12 just wasn’t good enough for the recreation, so they’ve decided to fit their car with a 3.8 litre V6 from Hyundai.

Lead engineer of the project, Masoud Mohadi, has admitted they don’t expect the suspension and handling are quite up to the original – or the performance, we’d hazard a guess – but that the car is ‘very safe’ even though he admits they’ve done no testing.

According to Mohadi, the ‘Murcielgao’ will be good for at least 175mph and, it seems, they’re planning a run of between 50 and 100 units a year.
