Nissan Micra IG-T 90 Tekna Review and Road Test

We’ve got the Nissan Micra IG-T 90 Tekna in for review and road test for a month or so to see if Nissan’s Micra has the measure of cars like the Ford Fiesta.

It’s two years since the current Nissan Mica arrived to banish thoughts of its less than appealing predecessor from buyers’ minds, and deliver up a competent challenge to the market leading Ford Fiesta.

What Nissan has delivered with the Micra is a car which can be compared with the Ford Fiesta, offering stylish looks, good quality materials and more than decent specs, especially in this range-topping Tekna trim Micra, although at £17,735 (before extras) it’s not exactly bargain basement. But it is competitive nonetheless.

This Micra Tekna comes with Nissan’s (and Renault’s) 3-pot petrol turbo, delivering a healthy enough 89bhp and the promise of decent (if not exciting) performance, and official economy of over 60 mpg.

That’s an appealing promise for a decent urban runaround, and the spec of the Tekna promises to make everyday journeys more than comfortable, although in the real world much depends on how the engine delivers its potential – in both economy and power.

So we’ve got a month or more to see if the Micra delivers on its promise to be a proper Fiesta competitor, and we’ll be using it just as owners would; the off long trip, lots of local driving, kids to school, dogs to the woods – the usual stuff – to see how well it stands up to the daily grind.

2018 Micra Tekna – range-topping spec

You can get a new Micra for under £13k, but this is the top of the range Tekna trim, so the price, with the 0.9 litre 3-pot petrol turbo engine, comes in at £17,735, and that’s before Nissan has added in a few extras to our review car.

But this Micra Tekna’s spec before the extras is still pretty impressive, with 17″ alloys, privacy glass, rear spoiler, soft-touch dash, keyless with push-button start, stop-start, 5″ driver display, Bose Sound, DAB, NissanConnect 7″ infotainment with Sat Nav, rear view camera, parking sensors and much more in the price.

There’s plenty of safety stuff in the price too, with Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Intelligent Lane Intervention, Intelligent Trace Control, Traffic Sign Recognition. Hill Start, High Beam Assist and three ISOFIX points.

Nissan has also thrown in Echo Grey metallic Paint (£575.00) to the mix as well as the Vision+ Pack (£600.00) which adds Around View Monitor, Moving Object Detection and Intelligent Blind Spot, Exterior Pack Plus (£550.00) in Perso Orange and Orange Interior Personalisation Pack (£400.00).

It all adds up to a proper big car spec. We’ll find out how it all works in everyday use in the coming weeks.
