Hamilton beats Bottas to WIN Spanish Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton has taken victory in the 2019 Spanish Grand Prix, beating Bottas and delivering the fifth Mercedes 1-2 of the season.
After qualifying in Barcelona yesterday for the 2019 Spanish Grand Prix, Bottas looked one again to have the measure of Hamilton and look set for another race win. But Hamilton had different ideas.
The current world champion started second but passed Bottas on the first corner, taking the lead and driving impressively to never really relinquish control and give him his third win of the season.
With just five races of the season gone, it’s looking like it’s going to be another Mercedes season, and despite promises ahead of each race from Ferrari that they’re up to the fight with Mercedes, it was fourth and fifth for Vettel and Leclerc, split by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.
Behind the top five it was Gasly in the Red Bull taking sixth, Magnussen in the Haas in seventh, Sainz in the McLaren eighth, Kvyat in the Toro Rosso in ninth and Grosjean taking the final points for Haas.
A coming together between Stroll and Norris ended their race – and necessitated a safety car – and once again the tow Williams cars were at the back and both lapped.
It’s off to Monaco next, somewhere Mercedes don’t have the best of times, which perhaps gives a chink of light for Ferrari.
But don’t bet on it.
