Nissan turns the electric e-NV200 in to an ‘ICE-Free’ Ice Cream Van

Nissan has taken their e-NV200 electric van and turned it in to an ice cream van, with Mackie’s of Scotland, for ‘Clean Air Day’ 2019.

Nissan’s electric e-NV200 van is selling well as business starts to get switched on to the real benefits of running electric vans for deliveries in urban areas, cutting noise an air pollution on the ground and actually saving money.

So it makes absolute sense to take the e-NV200 in slightly more specialist business areas – rather than just lugging parcels around – and Nissan reckons they’ve got a blinder of an idea – an electric ice cream van.

We have to get the ‘ICE-Free’ ice cream van pun out of the way, but using the e-NV200 for a business which drives slowly, often surrounded by pedestrians, in urban and congested areas could almost be what electric vans were invented for, especially as old diesel ice cream vans have to keep their chuggy diesel engines running to keep the ice cream refrigerated.

The electric ice cream van uses uses second life batteries and solar power to power the two ROAM power packs, which we recently saw in a tent from Nissan, which keep the ice cream cool.

Nissan has decided that ice cream vendors should serve customers in the e-NV200 ice cream van from outside – rather than through the traditional hatch – and instead of a jaunty jingle signalling arrival, the Nissan ice ream van sends out tweets. Really? No jaunty jingle?

The electric ice cream van is just a concept – built with the help of ice cream experts Mackie’s of Scotland – but it seems a perfect application for the electric van.

But please keep the jingle – as well as the tweets. It’s the sound of summer for children.
