Volvo XC60 updates include MASSIVE PHEV range boost

The Volvo XC60 gets updated for 2027 with new looks and a big increase in PHEV EV range, which also applies to the XC90 PHEV.

Volvo may have planned to ditch ICE in any form, but in the real world that isn’t a remotely sensible route. So instead of dumping ICE completely, they’re delivering more and more plug-in hybrids with ever-increasing EV range.

We may not yet get the new XC70 with its up to 112-mile range in the UK (although it’s expected to arrive next year), but we are getting new long-range PHEV versions of the XC60 (and XC90) with up to 124 miles of EV range (99 miles on the XC90).

The new long-range PHEV XC60 still uses Volvo’s 2.0-litre petrol engine, but it now gets a 41.2kWh battery – up from 19kWh – which not only gives an impressive EV range of 124 miles but also ups total range to a diesel-like 770 miles.

There look to be both T6 and T8 versions of the new XC60 long-range PHEV (but only T8 on the XC90) with the T6 getting a total of 351bhp to play with and the T8 456bhp.

Away from the powertrain improvements, the XC60 gets a similar makeover to the recent updates to the XC40, which means a new front end, including the bumper, bonnet, wings and grille, as well as Matrix LED ‘Thor’  headlights, with a new tailgate and taillights together with a new rear bumper and new alloys. But it still looks like an XC60.

Inside, there’s a new 11.2″ infotainment with Volvo’s latest UI, improved materials, clever ambient lighting and extra safety stuff like door opening warning.
